International Symposium on the Cryosphere in a Changing Climate

February 12-17, 2017
Wellington, New Zealand

This is the rst international symposium to bring together three of the leading international organizations in the eld of cryospheric research: IGS, IACS and CliC. The theme of the conference, ‘The Cryosphere in a Changing Climate’, is global in scope with a focus on physical processes within the cryosphere and interactions between the cryosphere and the climate system. This symposium will also serve as the 2017 meeting of New Zealand Snow and Ice Research Group (SIRG; the NZ regional branch of the International Glaciological Society), as well as the location for the IACS Bureau and CliC Scienti c Steering Group meetings.

Plenary speakers will include Professor Rob DeConto (University of Massachusetts, ice sheet modelling, 2016 Tinker–Muse prize winner), Professor Ben Marzeion (University of Bremen, mountain glaciers), Professor Marilyn Raphael (University of California, Los Angeles, sea ice, atmospheric circulation) and Professor Dorthe Dahl Jensen (University of Copenhagen, ice cores and climate).

Scientific Drilling in the Polar Regions Town Hall Meeting

December 13, 2016
San Francisco, California, USA

Ice sheets, glaciers, and the underlying bedrock, sediment and permafrost hold crucial evidence of past climate, ice sheet extent, and cratonic geology. National and international collaboration for drilling in the remote polar regions requires strategic coordination between science, technology, and logistics. This meeting will provide the research community with updates on IDPO-IDDO, IPICS, IPA, RAID, and WISSARD initiatives. Opportunities for community involvement will be showcased, and input from the audience will be solicited.

2016 AGU Fall Meeting

December 12-16, 2016
San Francisco, California, USA

AGU’s Fall Meeting is the largest Earth and space science meeting in the world. Fall Meeting brings together the entire Earth and space science community from across the globe for discussions of emerging trends and the latest research. The technical program includes presentations on new and cutting-edge science, much of which has not yet been published, meaning you’ll return to work with knowledge you can’t get anywhere else.

2016 West Antarctic Ice Sheet Workshop

October 4-6, 2016
Algonkian Regional Park, Sterling, VA

The 2016 WAIS Workshop will be held in Sterling, Virginia, in the Washington, DC area at Algonkian Regional Park. This multidisciplinary Earth system science workshop will focus on the distinctive glaciological, geological, oceanographic, and climatic aspects of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet. The 2016 host is Ted Scambos of the University of Colorado Boulder.

The meeting begins with an Icebreaker on Monday evening, October 3. Sessions will be organized by topic, with invited and contributed speakers on aspects of West Antarctic and related polar research. The sessions are followed with a brief panel discussion by the speakers. Poster sessions are held separately. The meeting adjourns after lunch on Thursday, October 6.

South Pole Ice Core Science Meeting
